Vein Treatment FAQs

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions vein treatment patients ask during a consultation or over the phone:

Are my vein treatments covered by insurance?

If you are experiencing certain symptoms of vein disease, your insurance company and Medi-care plan may cover the fees for the consultation and initial examination. If we find that major veins need to be treated with the CoolTouch laser, you may receive insurance benefits for the procedure.

When do I pay for services?

We will file an insurance claim on your behalf if you are experiencing symptoms of vein disease. If we find that you need laser vein treatment, we may need to contact your insurance company before we can offer treatment.

I don’t have insurance. Can I still see Dr. Katzen?

If you do not have insurance, we may be able to extend a discount for services. This can reduce your consultation fee and exam and the fees will be deducted from the cost of your treatment. Talk to us about payment options if you do not have insurance.

I’m concerned about varicose veins. What are my treatment options?

We offer several effective vein treatment options for patients with varicose veins and spider veins. Traditional surgery can be painful and demands a significant amount of downtime. We offer minimally-invasive procedures as an alternative to surgery, including the CoolTouch laser and ambulatory phlebectomy. In some cases, a combination of sclerotherapy and laser treat-ments can be effective for eliminating unsightly veins.

How does vein treatment affect circulation?

Before we offer any type of treatment, we will perform an ultrasonic exam to detect any prob-lematic veins. We can determine which veins are damaged and which ones are causing circula-tion problems. Symptoms of poor circulation include discoloration of the skin, bleeding, and skin breakdown.

How much do vein procedures cost?

The cost of treatment varies by individual and procedure. We will go over the costs and payment options during your consultation.

What are the options for spider vein treatment?

Since spider vein treatment is considered a cosmetic procedure, it is not covered by insurance. We offer sclerotherapy for the treatment of spider veins and you pay by session. Some patients need multiple sessions to achieve optimal results.

Do you offer financing?

We offer flexible payment plans and financing options. We can discuss these options during your consultation.

What causes varicose veins?

Varicose veins develop when your veins have become damaged and blood is pooling in the vein. Some people are at a higher risk of developing varicose veins. Risk factors include family history, pregnancy, and working in certain professions that involve long periods of standing or sitting.
